CLANDESTINE CHILDHOOD

...Clandestine Childhood is a semi-autobiographical film, that follows the life of Juan or should I say Ernesto, who with his resistance-fighter parents make fake identities for them and move to a whole new country. They build a new life for themselves but then it all comes crumbling down when (SPOILER ALERT) the uncle get either shot or sent to jail no one really knows and then they police come after their family and they get caught and the boy get taken back to his grandmothers house. The end of the film is really left open, so it is up to you and your imagination of what happens in the end. After the film you really have to think about it a lot and process it, it is not the kind of film that you can watch and then go right into another one.

The quality of the film is great, the way that they would blur out what you were not supposed to be focusing on and then the main center of attention would be pin sharp! The sound in a particular scene was amazing, it was an intense scene where (SPOILER ALERT) the police were trying to get into the hidden room that Juan/Ernesto was in and you could hear the screaming of the police to let them in but then you could very clearly hear Juan/Ernesto's deep rapid breathing, it made is so you could really feel how scared he was. In this film they also did this really cool thing, when you thought there was going to be a bloody scene it would switch to draw cartoons of what was happening, it was a really cool way to get around the blood scenes but some of it was confusing because they moved very fast.

One of my favorite scenes was the scene when Juan/Ernesto was on the school camping trip and he and his girlfriend break off from the rest of the group and they find this old, rusted car and they start playing in it and they pretend that they are going to Brazil. This is such a cute scene and it gives Juan/Ernesto a nice break from his stressful family back home and the two kids are genuinely having fun!

I recommend this film to anyone that really liked the movie Moonrise Kingdom because parts of Clandestine Childhood reminded me of it, I also recomend this film to anyone who is interested in resistance-fighter in 1979. I rate this film a 5/5 because I really liked the story and I thought it was very well done.
