Blindsight Producer Sybil Robinson-Orr

After the movie Blindsight, we interviewed the producer of the movie. Her name was Sybil Robinson-Orr and she was really interesting and nice! Here’s our interview…
We asked a lot of questions about the journey up the mountain and what exactly happened to the boy Tahsi, who especially interested us.
Sybil told us that she liked how the movie showed two different ways of reaching goals. For this case, she takes the teacher Sabriye and says that she was much more concentrated on reaching the goal of believing in yourself if you are blind. Then she used the case of Erik and his team, who thought the most important part was getting to the top.
Sybil actually went on the climb herself along with the whole crew that made the movie and said that even though the film didn’t show it, they suffered through a 5-day blizzard along the way. She also said that they got 300 hours of footage and had to cut it down to 150 min.
The name Blindsight is a medical term that means that you have perceived vision when you are blind. For example: when someone holds up 2 fingers in front of a blind person and asks them how many fingers, the most likely answer will be “2”. The original film name was “Climb Higher” but seemed too demanding.
Sybil is hoping that this movie will be shown at the Hong Kong Film Festival. She’s also planning to do a follow-up film for the movie and is now really close friends with all the kids and guides who went up the mountain.
Sybil hopes that this movie will have a big impact on the way Tibet looks at blind people. She and others are planning to go into the backcountry there and are going to try to show her film back there.

    Good luck Sybil!
