49-Up

Sorry it’s a little late, but here we go: So first I’ll talk about last night. We saw the movie 49-Up. I personally thought it was pretty boring (I couldn’t stop fidgeting) and too long. It was interesting, however, and some things were very surprising.
So here’s the summary in a nutshell: 49 years ago, 14 kids were picked, with their parent’s consent, to air on television to see what kids views were on politics. They then decided to broadcast these young children’s lives every seven years. In every show you could see them changing and becoming new people. It was really fascinating to see how different they could be at different times in their life. Well anyway, this movie was the last of these films and showed these people at the age of 49. By this time, 2 of the participants stepped out and the rest kept on going, even though many had very negative attitudes towards this part of their life.
I thought it was really long; so long that I could barely even remember the different people as it went on. I didn’t really like how it sort of dug into their life. I mean, I know that I wouldn’t want everybody to know about my whole life. My life is my own life and I know that I wouldn’t like people I’d never even heard of knowing about it. The movie was interesting at some parts, especially the end when it featured a man who was living on the streets for 30 years of his life, and then 7 years later he rented a house, was part of the city council and had completely changed his life around. I couldn’t even believe it when I saw him going from an edgy, uncomfortable, homeless man, to a relatively happy, well-off man. At one point he said, “I don’t think I want to have any children, ‘cause then they might get some traits from me. And even if my wife was the most wonderful person in the world, I don’t think my children would be normal at all.”
So I think that overall, even though I thought some of it was really good, I give this movie 3 out of 5.
