The Italian

The Italian is a movie about a young, orphaned boy named Vanya, soon to be adopted. But after the mother of another boy is turned away from her son, Vanya worries that if he is adopted, his mother will end up in the same spot.
The characters in this movie are very simple and very easy to figure out. It’s nice, because you don’t spend a lot of time trying to assess where they stand. But figuring out whether you like the character or not is a whole different thing. No one is a bad guy and no one is a fairy godmother. In other words, all the characters are very human and have a certain level of both kindness and cruelty. Of course, for some people, cruelty outweighs kindness and vise-versa. But everyone had a drive to them and they all knew what they wanted.
The acting was very good. Because the script was so good, there wasn’t very much more left that the actors had to do. The directing was very good, so not much was left to be desired.
As for the story itself, it was touching and heartfelt. The journey of a six-year-old boy through the Russian cities trying to find his mother is one of the saddest and cutest things a story can be about.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone that enjoys good movies. Because this was a good movie. 5/5, definitely.
