As Day 2 of the ECO:nomics conference came to a close, Teen Press members Mary and Logan summarized what was quite an interesting day...with the likes of Al Gore, CEO of the Year Anne Mulcahy, and sessions about water, coal, and the Smart Grid.

On the day before he was inaugurated, President Obama and Martin Luther King Jr. began their day of service with an unannounced visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. President Obama and Martin were guided by the Commander of Walter Reed, Colonel Norvell Van Coots.

The day after the Inauguration, Teen Press reporters Logan and Sierra crawled out of bed early to get their own tour our nation's largest military medical center. They too were guided by Col. Van Coots.

On the eve of the Solvang Century Bike Ride, Marandah and Mary attended Experience Mobility: The Power of Bicycles in Africa, a special dinner put on by World Vision, World Bicycle Relief and SRAM. The girls interviewed SRAM CEO Stan Day, World Bicycle Relief President F.K. Day, Jessica Congelliere of World Vision, and from Kenya, the members of the band Milele.

Nicholas Negroponte, an organizer of the One Laptop Per Child project, visited Kellogg Elementary in Goleta to receive an award from UC Santa Barbara's Technology Management Program. The "Leader in Innovation" award is given to someone who uses technology to transform society. The Teen Press was there to talk with Dr. Negroponte about his work. Kendall, Marandah, and Sierra report on Sarah House, a social Hospice home for adults. They dress in their best 60's costumes to attend The Artizan's Ball, Sarah House's annual fundraiser, and then spend an afternoon at Sarah House to learn more about what folks are doing there. Have we reached the educational mountaintop? Christian and Sophie get a chance to visit with Ernie Green's friend and fellow member of the Little Rock Nine, Dr. Terrence Roberts. Dr. Roberts, who was a 15-yr.-old junior at Central High in 1957, was a special guest at the UCSB screening of Little Rock Central High: 50 Years Later presented by the African American Film Series.

Logan and Sophie visit with Megan Doneman, director of "Yes Madam, Sir". The inspiring story of Kiran Bedi, "India's most controversial daughter", "Yes Madam, Sir" won both the Best Documentary Film Award and was the unanimous choice for the Social Justice Award at this year's Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
